A knight for King William, Raolfe de Gere first met Caryn of Ivesham in the forest near her home. Ral instructs Caryn, and her little sister, to go right home, that their is fighting in the area and it is not safe for them to be out. Caryn believes that it was Ral's men who attacked her and her sister years before, and despite her desire to exact revenge, she is unable to go through with it. The plot thickens as others threaten the fragile relationship Ral and Caryn try to build.
