From Literary Times As the title suggests, Upon A Midnight Clear, is a collection of novellas centered on the Christmas Season. Three of the tales, Christmas Magic, If Only in My Dreams, and White Out are contemporary while the other two, The Teacher, and Jolly Holly are historical. The first tale is The Teacher, by Jude Deveraux, which picks up where her bestselling novel, Legend, ended. Out of money and on the run with her son Jeremy, Kathryn de Longe accepts a job teaching Cole Jordan's out of control son, Zachary Jordan. When Cole tries to back out of the deal, Kathryn sues him for breech of contract, but if she wins, will she loose her heart? In, Christmas Magic, Margaret Allison, spins a poignant story about family and forgiveness. Kim Risson receives a call that her estranged workaholic father, Dr. Harold Risson has suffered a heart attack. Due to the Thanksgiving travel crunch, she gets bumped from her flight, but a dashing Anthony Hoffman gives her his seat. Coincidentally, this prince charming is also the surgeon who operates on her father. Will the Christmas season make room in Anthony's life for both his career and a family? Stef Ann Holm uses lemon trees, oil wells, golf balls and holly berries to create a quirky little tale about the joy of sharing in Jolly Holly. When fliers promising riches beyond their wildest dreams show up in Limenero, John Wolcott and Isabel Burche start off as competitors but end as partners in an odd contest collecting the most holly berries by midnight Christmas Eve. A truly original tale. If gingerbread and plenty of snow spell Christmas for you, then Mariah Stewart's, If Only in my Dreams, will suit perfectly. Children's author and illustrator, Quinn Hollister gave up on love twelve years ago when a mixup prevented her from eloping with Caleb McKenzie. But with a freak blizzard, four yearold twins, a mountain cabin and plenty of Holiday cheer, these two soul mates reunite. Linda Howard ends this collection of tales with an erotic love story, White Out. When deputy, Price Tanner, stumbles onto Hope Bradshaw's front porch half frozen, she revives him with shared body heat. Soon the fire in the fireplace isn't the only one in the room. But is he really an officer of the law, or a hunky convict making a break for freedom? Okay, call me a sucker for the Christmas spirit, but I really love these Christmas collections. With authors of the caliber of Deveraux, Holms, and Howard I knew I would probably like at least three of the stories, but I was also impressed by two authors I hadn't read before, Mariah Stewart and Margaret Allison. Although I loved Howard's White Out, some readers may be put off by a few curse words. Deveraux fans will be glad to note Wendell, the leather clad motorcyclist of Legend is mentioned in this story, making me wonder if we'll see her featured in her own book.Five heartwarming, unforgettable tales from five of today's most talented romance authors! Curl up and keep this one close! Deveraux keeps pushing the boundaries of Romance into uncharted territory. She never depends on the cliché, but spins unique plots and characters for her fans to fall in love with! Readers will love Margaret Allison's sweet blend of romance and completely human characters! Stef Ann Holm's tales sparkle with originality and humor! Mariah Stewart writes the kind of stories readers will love to curl up with! Sparks fly in Linda Howard's brand of sensual romance!Phoebe Imel Copyright © 199497 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved This text refers to the Hardcover edition.
