We're happy to welcome you as a new customer to Hard to Find Books! Placing your first order is easy. There's no need to create an account first. You will have done that once you've placed your first order online.

Off-Line Ordering

If you'd prefer to place your order off-line, you can call our Customer Service Department at (425) 747-2931, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (PST). Our knowledgeable telephone representatives will be happy to help you.

How to find books

First you will need to browse or search for the items you would like to order. Author/title/new and used search boxes are located on nearly every page of our store in our fast search window located on the left toolbar. The default search is by author in used books.

• To search by author click on the appropriate buttons and simply type in last name first, then first name, then click on SEARCH. You can also type in the first letter of the author's last name to find all authors under that letter.
• To search by title change the buttons to TITLE and NEW or USED. You can type the entire title or part of it. The entire title will narrow the search, of course. If you want to search for all titles containing a certain word, just type in that word. (i.e. sheik - this will give you all titles containing the word sheik). When you find an item that interests you, click on the title to see its detail page. Many of our titles have synopsis information.

Advanced Search

You can use the narrow down your search in many ways by clicking on either NEW BOOKS or USED BOOKS on the top toolbar. We offer the following methods of advanced searching:
title
genre (Use the dropdown menu to find the genre you desire, highlight it and click on SEARCH)
author
keyword
publisher (Use the dropdown menu to find the publisher you want, highlight it and run your search. All authors writing for this publisher will come up. Click on your author to view her titles)
binding
alpha listing

Adding items to your Shopping Cart

Used Books
If you want to order an item, check the box to the left of the title and click on 'ADD TO MY CART.'

New Books
Unless a new book is included in one of our newsletters or our new release lists, it has no check box but an order button. Press this button and the book automatically goes into the cart. To order another book, either use the back button or start another search.

You can access the contents of your Shopping Cart at any time by clicking the VIEW CART bar at the top of every page of our Web site

Take a moment to review all of the items you've placed in your Shopping Cart. When you're ready to place an order for everything in the 'Shopping Cart', click either the 'CHECK OUT' or 'MEMBER'S CHECK OUT' button. You will be taken to the log in page. If you sign up as a member, you will not have to enter this information again, plus you will have access to a personal wish list as well as your order history with Hard to Find Books. This membership is free.

Enter your e-mail address and fill in the password field. Associate a password with your account so that when you come back to Hard to Find Books in the future, you can use the same shipping address and method of payment you provided during this first order. Make sure you write your password down somewhere so that you remember it the next time you place an order. Click on 'Log In.' This will take you to the Account Information page.

Fill in your account information letting us know your billing and shipping information, phone number, and email address.

Select a Shipping Method.

When will My Order Arrive?
To calculate when you will receive an item you need to consider the availability of the items you are ordering as well as the shipping option you select. The availability is as follows:

New books: 2-3 day availability (We do not stock our new books and depending on volume and warehouse available, this could be subject to delays).
Used books: Most are in stock - will ship immediately.

Here is the equation we use to determine delivery times:

Title Availability + Shipping Time = Total Delivery Time

Example: You have ordered a new book with a 2-3 day availability. If you select media mail shipping for US shipments, your shipping time will be 7-10 business days depending on where you live. This means your total delivery time will be 2-3 days (availability) + 7-10 business days (shipping time). You can expect your order delivered to you in 9-13 business days.

Next, let us know how you would like to pay for your order by clicking on the MAKE YOUR PAYMENT CHOICE button. We accept Discover, MasterCard, Visa, PayPal or a check, money order, or cashier's check denominated in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank. All orders must be prepaid.

Pay by Check or Money Order
You can select 'pay by check' on the order form, and send us a personal check or money order in US dollars for the amount of the order. These should be sent to:

We realize the concern about security when transmitting over the internet, and therefore, we take every possible precaution to protect the information given to us. We use the industry standard secure transmission link, which encrypts all information you send so that it cannot be read in transit.

Finish Your Order
Check the accuracy of the information you provided and make any necessary adjustments. When you are ready, click the COMPLETE THIS ORDER button to submit your order. Once you've placed your order, you'll reach a page that reads

We've received your order. Thank you for shopping at Hard to Find Books

We will then send you an e-mail message confirming your order. We will send you another e-mail message at the time of shipment.

All books are subject to prior sale and are sold on a first come-first serve basis. Most titles will ship within 24 hours after payment has been received. If you are paying by check, we will notify you within 48 hours of the availability of your books.

It's easy to return an item for a refund. All books are returnable within 10 days after receipt for any reason after contacting our store. The item must be repackaged in the original or like container, wrapped with the same care and concern as sent, and returned in the same condition as sent. It is helpful to include the packing list with the reason for return. Shipping charges are not refundable.

If you need to cancel your order, let us know within 5 days of the order date. At our discretion a 15% re-stocking fee may be charged.

If you are a new customer and haven't placed an order with us yet, you do not need to register or open an account with us first. You will create an account at the time that you place your first order.

To Change Your Name/Email Address/Password
If you simply wish to change the name or e-mail address associated with your account, or if you know your password but would like to change it, you can do so through Your Account. (When logging in, remember to enter the e-mail address and password currently associated with your account.

To View Your Order History
You can review the status of any order you have placed with Hard to Find Books. For orders that have yet to ship, you will be able to review the order total, shipping address, payment method, and item availability. For orders that have already been shipped, you can confirm the date and method of shipment, an estimated date of arrival, and a tracking number (if applicable.

It is easy to create a Wish List. Just shop in any area of our store. When you find an item you would like to add to your Wish List, click the 'Add to my Wish List' button. The Wish Lists are matched nightly with our updated database. You will be notified by email that you book you want is now available, the book's condition and selling price. You must contact us to purchase a book from your WISH LIST. If you want to update your WISH LIST, just log into YOUR ACCOUNT page.

Secure Shopping
For your security, orders on our site are encrypted with SSL technology on both the client and server end. Your information sent via the Internet can be trusted to arrive privately and unaltered, to our server only. In order for SSL security to work, you must use an SSL-enabled browser. On each detail page of a book, you are given the opportunity to rate and review the title. We encourage you to include your comments here (no author bashing please). Be sure and include your email address as we send out free books to our reviewers many times.

The codes we use are as follows.

New Never been read
Nice Very slight spine creases, might have store stamps or name in book.
Good Heavier spine or cover creasing.
Fair+ Well read but still glossy.
Fair Definite creases in spine or cover. Acceptable.
Poor Reading copy only. All pages are intact.
VGHardback edition, very good condition.
